Prof. Mohammed Abu-Nimer is a Palestinian-American scholar and practitioner of peacebuilding and conflict resolution. He is a professor in the School of International Service at American University, where he was the inaugural holder of the Abdul Aziz Said Chair in International Peace and Conflict Resolution. His work has focused on interfaith dialogue, peacebuilding in Muslim communities, and the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. Among other distinctions, in 2024, he received the 41st Niwano Peace Prize.
Abu-Nimer received a BA and an MA from Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a PhD in conflict analysis and resolution from George Mason University. After teaching at Guilford College, he joined American University in 1997
Collaborators


Dr. Moudjib Djinadou is a Beninese lawyer with a PhD in public international law from Paris 5 René Descartes University. With over thirty years of experience at the United Nations, he has worked in crucial areas such as peacekeeping operations, political governance, and conflict resolution.
An academic and committed author, he founded the Itumò Institute, an initiative that builds on efforts across Africa to address the continent's challenges. Through Itumò, he aspires to inspire future generations to become fully aware of their responsibilities and to take ownership of the complex issues facing Africa.


Skylar Joseph is a forensic anthropologist and archaeologist focusing on human rights and humanitarian contexts, and is currently pursuing her PhD at Leiden University Law School, with her research focusing on the missing and deceased migration crisis in the Central Mediterranean. Since 2017, she has been the Lead Bioarchaeologist and a Field Supervisor for the Tell Timai Archaeological Project in Egypt. She has previously gained experience at the ICRC Forensic Unit (Geneva, CH), the Massachusetts OCME (Boston, USA), and the US Committee on Refugees and Immigrants (NY, USA)
Skylar holds two Master of Science degrees in Forensic Anthropology (Boston University) and Human Rights (SUNY Binghamton), and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and History (University of Minnesota Morris).


Joseph Mozokin is an international human rights advocate and consultant specialising in multilateral diplomacy and the use of United Nations mechanisms to advance global human rights standards. His work spans negotiating UN Human Rights Council resolutions, supporting the drafting of international legal frameworks, and advising on the creation of new multilateral processes. Joseph is routinely called to provide evidence to UN bodies on issues related to migrant rights, enforced disappearances, and independent monitoring.
Joseph holds a Master’s degree in Political Analysis and Public Policy.


Sara Kamoun is a specialist in international human rights, humanitarian affairs, and post-conflict security, with experience spanning the UN system, academic institutions, and international organizations. Her work focuses on advancing protection, inclusion, and locally driven peacebuilding, with prior roles at OHCHR, UNMAS, and Sida.
Sara holds a Master’s degree in War Studies from the Swedish Defence University.


Nadine Schellekens is a strategist and communicator with a background in environmental economics, design thinking, and international consulting. She has worked across sectors to support education, sustainability, and impact-oriented businesses, with experience ranging from working with Western business executives to local schoolchildren in Mauritius, where she now lives and works.
Nadine holds a BSc in Industrial Design (University of Technology Eindhoven) and a MSc in Environmental Economics (University of Amsterdam).


Stephen Lyajoon is a published multidisciplinary researcher focused on integrating social development and environmental sustainability, with a background in criminology, human development, and environmental sustainability. His diversified professional portfolio spans the academic, intergovernmental, and corporate sectors, including work at the Social Development Division of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
Stephen holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, specializing in Criminal Sociology (Glasgow Caledonian University) and a Master’s degree in Environment, Development & Sustainability (Chulalongkorn University).


Nour Moujaes is an international relations and political science professional with experience in business development, program advising, and communications. She has contributed to initiatives of the United Nations, UNMAS, and other international organizations, focusing on building partnerships, strengthening outreach, and amplifying impactful messaging.
Nour holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Political Science from the University of Hertfordshire.


Bruno Donat is an international relations professional with more than 25 years experience, formerly at the United Nations including the World Bank, specialized in multilateralism, humanitarian and political affairs, diplomacy, conflict, mediation, peace operations, and programme & project management. His complementary specialties include Disarmament, Demobilization & Reintegration (DDR) and resource mobilization.
He received training in Conflict Resolution and Applied International Studies from the Caux Scholars Program in Switzerland and studied International Relations at the Institut d'Etudes Politiques of Strasbourg, France. He was exposed as well to a military education through his participation as a cadet officer in the US Army R.O.T.C. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A., summa cum laude in Theology and a M.A. in Political Science from Boston College, USA.
